Adobe introduced Photoshop for iPhone on 25 February 2025, bringing image composition to a phone-sized interface.
Selection and retouching tools
- Tap Select lets users recolour, replace or remove selected image areas.
- The Spot Healing Brush addresses small distractions.
- Generative Fill and Generative Expand add content or extend images.
The premium offering adds Object Select, Magic Wand, Clone Stamp and advanced blending modes. Adobe also announced broader browser support for Photoshop on the web, including Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge.
A mobile-first audience
In an interview with Reuters, product marketing executive Deepa Subramaniam described younger creators who principally photograph and edit on their phones as the intended audience. Adobe tested the application directly with these prospective users. Free tools for layering, masking and adding text support artwork for podcasts, music playlists and video channels.
The launch came as Apple and Google already provided familiar photo adjustments within their operating systems. The subscription announced at $7.99 a month added more cloud storage and browser-based editing, alongside extra mobile capabilities. Android availability remained a forthcoming release.
How the mobile application fits
Adobe's launch explanation explicitly positioned the phone application alongside, rather than as a replacement for, the desktop version. It described full-resolution editing, unlimited non-destructive layers and selective adjustments. Cloud PSD documents could move into Adobe Express or Fresco, while Lightroom photographs could be edited in the new application.
The Mobile and Web plan synchronised files automatically between those two versions. Premium export options included PSD, TIF, JPG and PNG. Separately, live co-editing remained a private beta for desktop and web subscribers, with access through a waiting list; it was not presented as an unrestricted mobile feature.
