On 13 May 2025, Airbnb introduced services bookable without an accommodation reservation or a trip. The launch covered ten categories in 260 cities, including chefs and photography.
Booking and availability
- Listings show providers' qualifications, offerings and prices.
- The redesigned app brings homes, services and experiences together.
- Availability is limited by location and participating homes.
The Trips tab shows itineraries; messaging supports photos, videos and payments for customised services.
What the announcement means for home hosts
Airbnb's accompanying host guidance described three possible settings for a service: a home, the provider's business premises or a public space. It also addressed the rules for services inside a rented home. Services were allowed by default, but the accommodation host could decline particular services.
The published procedure was to contact Airbnb Support and identify the services the host did not permit. Support would then update the property's house rules. These were the host-facing arrangements described with the May release, rather than a promise that every service could be delivered in every property.
Preparation before the launch
In its 1 May 2025 results announcement, Airbnb had described rebuilding the app on a new technology platform over several years to support businesses beyond home rentals. The company distinguished this work from improvements to its existing accommodation service, including Guest Favorites and the display of total prices. Brian Chesky pointed to 13 May as the date for revealing the next stage.
That earlier announcement reported first-quarter revenue of $2.3 billion, up 6% year on year. Those results preceded the services launch and did not measure sales from the new offering.
Earlier changes to trip coordination
The 1 May 2024 release had introduced shared wishlists on which travelling companions could add homes, leave notes and vote. Group messaging let trip participants communicate with the host in one conversation. Digital invitations also gave invited travellers reservation details, including the address and check-in instructions. These were earlier group-travel features, not service bookings introduced in May 2025.
