Dyson unveiled PencilVac in May 2025, combining a narrow cordless format with a redesigned dust container.
The announced cleaner has a 38mm body and a 28mm motor. Its syringe-style emptying mechanism expels collected dirt while wiping the shroud.

Japanese launch arrangements
Dyson's Japanese subsidiary announced a staged sales launch from 22 May through its official online store, directly operated shops and consumer-electronics retailers. Its local product table distinguished two versions: PencilVac Fluffycones, weighing 1.8kg with battery and standard cleaner head, and PencilVac Fluffy, weighing 1.3kg on the same basis. The Fluffycones package listed a hair-screw tool as well as a brush-equipped crevice tool; the Fluffy package listed the latter. These were Japanese launch configurations, not promised specifications for every future market.
Earlier compact floorcare development
Dyson's announcement of 21 May 2021 described the Omni-glide's separation system, motor, filter and handle arranged in a line. The company said development involved 470 hours of household trials with 277 users across six countries. Four swivelling castors supported that model's cleaner head; its two brush bars rotated in opposite directions. The earlier bin used a rotary catch and a silicone collar to wipe the mesh shroud. These details describe the 2021 appliance and its development programme, not trials of the subsequently announced PencilVac.
Engineering investment reported before the unveiling
In its results announcement published on 28 February 2024, Dyson reported that research and development expenditure had increased by more than 40% in 2023. Investment including capital expenditure exceeded £2 billion since 2021. These are company-wide disclosures, not a separately identified development budget for PencilVac.
