The Alverca facility joined the active engine-maintenance network.
OGMA received its first Pratt & Whitney GTF engine at the inauguration of its facility in Alverca, Portugal, on 25 July 2024. The Embraer subsidiary initially offered maintenance for the PW1100G-JM, which powers the Airbus A320neo family. Reuters reported that PW1900G overhaul for Embraer's E2 aircraft was planned from 2026.
A gradual increase in activity
Embraer expected peak annual capacity of 240 engines. Services executive Carlos Naufel did not specify the initial capacity or a date for reaching the peak, describing a year-by-year ramp-up. He said the first engines came from European airlines, with engines from other regions possible later.
The network's eighteenth active location
Pratt & Whitney described OGMA as its eighteenth active GTF maintenance location worldwide and eighth in Europe. It expected nineteen active workshops by 2025. The announced work included:
- Engine disassembly.
- Assembly and testing.
The programme's earlier investment plan
In a statement dated 19 November 2021 and filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Embraer described an €80 million investment, mainly during the project's first four years. It expected around 300 direct skilled jobs, with the strongest impact in 2022–2023, and about 200 additional jobs from 2027 under the expanded agreement. The contract ran for thirty years. These figures described the earlier project commitments; they were not a July 2024 count of expenditure or people already employed.
Another induction earlier that month
On 19 July, Pratt & Whitney and SR Technics announced the first GTF engine induction at the latter's Zurich facility. The Swiss company had joined the network in 2022; the July announcement identified its workshop as the seventeenth active location worldwide and seventh in Europe. The two July announcements therefore concerned different facilities, not two openings of the Portuguese workshop.
