Shure introduced the MV7i microphone and interface at CES on 6 January 2025, adding a connection for another microphone or an instrument.

The announcement extends a recording product family built around microphones and desktop software. The new model has a combined XLR/quarter-inch input and a USB-C output.

From microphone outputs to an additional input

On 26 October 2020, Shure announced the original MV7 as its first hybrid XLR/USB microphone. That predecessor provided an XLR output for interfaces and mixers, alongside USB connections for computers. Its companion MOTIV desktop application offered selectable vocal tones and microphone-distance settings. The microphone also had touch controls for gain, headphone volume and monitor mix. Those were features of the earlier MV7, whose connection to external audio equipment was described in terms of an output.

The software introduced in April 2024

Shure announced the MV7+ on 9 April 2024, retaining hybrid XLR and USB-C outputs. It also introduced the free MOTIV Mix desktop application, with a beta planned for that launch. The announced software included Soundcheck for microphone-gain assessment and a monitor slider for adjusting microphone and computer-playback levels individually. Compatibility with the older MV7 and MVX2U was described as forthcoming, rather than already available. This earlier announcement documents the software programme preceding the new microphone.

A measured podcast audience before the launch

Edison Research's Infinite Dial 2024 reported that 47% of Americans aged twelve and older had listened to a podcast in the previous month; 34% had done so in the previous week. Published on 28 March 2024, the study surveyed 1,086 people that January through English- and Spanish-language telephone interviews, supplemented by an online panel for younger respondents. Results were weighted to the US population aged twelve and older. These are audience measures, not microphone sales or a count of recording businesses.
