Tinkoff announced its transition to T-Bank on 5 June 2024, replacing the founder-based name with a shorter identity. The Russian online lender said the change would be gradual. Management linked the decision to its international ambitions, presenting the new name as suitable for potential geographical expansion rather than announcing the opening of an overseas business.
New names across the group
The company's announcement in T-J identified tbank.ru as the new website address, replacing tinkoff.ru. Services adopting the new naming included T-Investments and T-Mobile. Changes to the appearance of cards, cash machines and other branded materials were planned before autumn 2024; separate notification would follow about the names of legal entities.
The announcement also recalled February's introduction of a simplified yellow shield containing the letter T. That visual change preceded the June announcement of the new name.
Advertising and physical materials
In an interview with Vedomosti, chairman Stanislav Bliznyuk described the implementation programme:
- Online channels and advertising would use the new identity from 5 June, alongside a television campaign.
- Signage and cash-machine repainting would follow over several months.
- The established marketing budget would support the campaign, with additional expenditure for repainting cash machines.
Bliznyuk said the company's own team developed the name and logo, assisted by outside agencies. The existing yellow, black, grey and white palette and the slogan would remain.
Continuity of services
The bank's accompanying explanation said the change of identity would not alter the operation of existing cards, applications and services. The contemporaneous T-J announcement repeated that continuity statement, including online banking and insurance. This was the company's explanation of the rebranding, not an announcement of replacement financial products.
